Fab Couples: Iowa

Amanda & Zachary Svoboda

Amanda Svoboda, philanthropist and owner of Little House on Main; Zachary Svoboda, philanthropist, musician, pastor and co-owner of Little House on Main

Homebase: We live in Bondurant, just outside of Des Moines. Small town feel with big city convenience just minutes away.

How did your love story begin? Zach: It began when I was 19 and Amanda was 16. We were both volunteering on a Christian retreat and serving others when I wrote a letter to Amanda that sparked the beginning of it all. We physically met for the first time at the altar of a church in Waterloo, Iowa. That was Labor Day weekend of 2006, and we married in 2009 at the ages of 21 and 18–young love with Jesus at the center. We now have four amazing young boys, a home we love and a great circle of friends.

Favorite thing about one another: Zach: Amanda has an innocence about her and a heart that’s filled with so much grace. She’s fun, she’s hot, she is extremely supportive of my role as the husband and dad. I have a lot of favorites about her. I can keep going!

Amanda: Zach has a boldness about him and wears his heart on his sleeve. He is the friend, father and husband that is going to love you fiercely and honestly, unconditionally. His unwavering faith keeps us leaning in and moving forward in whatever we feel called to. He’s a pretty hot dad too. There are always new seasons of new things I love about him. It is a continuous journey of learning new things about each other!

Favorite date night: This is easy. Simon’s restaurant in Des Moines. We love great food, good company in a cozy, intimate and laidback atmosphere. By far our favorite place to date and take others. Nothing better than being in the presence of those you love the most, sharing great conversation, laughs, making more memories while being treated like family in this special, always-great eatery.

Favorite tradition you have as a couple: We enjoy traveling to new places with our kids, getting coffee together and always seeking out adventure.

What does your happily ever after look like? Honestly, we just want to do and be where we feel led. It’s why we are where we are. Being content in serving others, loving people well–to us, that’s what it’s about. We have what we need when we have each other, and we truly embrace that for the gift that it is. We want to be the best we can for our kids and community and lead by example in the ways we love, serve and give of our time and money, etc.
