Hometown: Swisher, Iowa

First job: Filing my mom’s client invoices for her design business in alphabetical order. She knew a type-A kid when she saw one.

Favorite ways to spend your free time in IA: I play Euchre regularly with a group of women my age. There’s a lot of talking, and a lot of charcuterie…there’s a little card playing.

Your biggest accomplishment and why: Growing and birthing two humans is probably at the top. My daughters are already fabulous at ages 6 and 3. They make me laugh so hard I cry, challenge me and amaze me. I’m wildly proud of them, and I can’t wait to watch their impact on the world.

The biggest obstacle you overcame: In August of 2023, I made a huge pivot to start my own practice. I loved where I worked for the first decade of my career, but I knew my next step was to lean into my strengths and make a special place for women in the motherhood transition. I hate change, and it felt like walking off a diving board blindfolded. I buckled down, worked around the clock and opened a new clinic in roughly two weeks. With an epic support crew, I got a new space ready while still seeing patients, parenting and taking care of my mom as she recovered from radiation treatments. I felt like an absolute maniac, but was genuinely excited to pull it all together. I’ve learned so much from the whole process, and I’m so glad I dove into all of the scary discomfort to create something really unique for the community.

Someone who inspires you and why: My mom has been an interior designer and entrepreneur for over 40 years. I’ve been lucky to watch her grow a successful business while raising kids, which helped me know it was possible. I’ve watched her handle big business mistakes and big business wins with a lot of grace and generosity. She’s the queen of speaking her mind, and evolving while also honing her craft. If I can do that in a completely different line of work, I’ll be excited.

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: When I was in graduate school, I was told not to find my niche. Later I was told “the best way” for a prenatal and pediatric practice to operate. I’m so glad I didn’t listen to either of those suggestions. Seeing a specific patient population was one of the best choices I’ve ever made, along with creating custom treatment plans rather than a cookie-cutter system for patient care. You won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but you’ll be some people’s best cup of tea and that’s pretty great.

Favorite quote: “I may not know what the day may bring, but I know who brings the day.” It relieves a lot of stress by reminding me I’m not (and shouldn’t) be in control all the time.

Something someone would be surprised to learn about you: I love local, organic, whole foods — but my dream meal is a food truck bacon cheeseburger.

What makes someone fabulous: Fabulous people are full of pure positive energy. They can kick their ego to the curb and find worth in every person and situation.
