Dr. Argrow “Kit” Evans-Ford

Founder and director of Argrow’s House of Healing and Hope; adjunct professor at St. Ambrose University. “For over 15 years, I have worked in the areas of nonviolence, chaplaincy and providing trauma-informed care to women and children survivors of violence. In 2017, we started Argrow’s House in Davenport, Iowa.  Argrow’s House is a bath and body social enterprise that employs female survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence. We also provide free therapeutic services for women survivors of violence.

What causes are you most passionate about and why? I am most passionate about serving marginalized populations. Sometimes issues like poverty, sexism and violence against women and children go hand in hand. The issues are often connected. One of my life’s purposes is to see the connections between the causes and assist the best I can in mobilizing people to serve those who are marginalized.

In what ways do you give back to the community? Much of my hours and days are focused on serving women and children survivors of violence. I give back by committing my time, research, and professional career to this important work.

If someone is new to nonprofit or volunteer work, how do you recommend they get started? Think of a cause that you are passionate about and search out an organization doing good work in that specific area. The people you volunteer with will be like-minded. They will easily become like family!
