Do you think something is lacking in your community? How do you bring that “something missing” to life? Realizing this missing piece is how Spavia was brought to Ankeny.
Dawn Ledin was working in corporate America, living in Ankeny with her husband and looking for a spa experience akin to an all-inclusive Caribbean resort. Somewhere to escape. Somewhere to relax. Somewhere quiet.
After her husband discovered a spa franchise based out of Colorado, Ledin conducted some meetings and brought the first Spavia to Iowa.
The spa offers a variety of services, including beauty and waxing, skin care, massage, body treatments and even men’s treatments (they have their own pampering and relaxation room).
Walking into Spavia Ankeny, you feel as if you’re in a boutique with local cosmetics, stuffed animals, jewelry, skincare and more. In the back, you’ll find a friendly face or two to get you checked in for your appointment. You’ll be given a full-length robe and slip-on sandals to change into before your service of choice. In the pampering area, there are lockers to store your personal items, a shower and changing rooms.
After you have changed, walk into the relaxation room to hear a gentle waterfall, watch the fire and sip on hot tea or cold water. Or, simply close your eyes and let the sense of peace wash over you. Soon, your name is called for your service.
During a springtime visit to Spavia Ankeny, we enjoyed a full-body massage, complete with aromatherapy, and a facial, which started with a light head massage and ended with a hand and arm massage. We were very impressed with the patience and time that the esthetician took each step up the way. The treatments were suited to our needs and interests, so we could truly relax and enjoy.
A great feature that Spavia Ankeny offers is a monthly, transparent and affordable membership. It’s recommended to have regular massages and skin care treatments, especially if your day job means sitting at your desk for hours on end. Great thing is, there is no long-term commitment. Choose from a three-, six- or nine-month membership at three different levels: Essential, Premier or Ultimate.
With Mother’s Day coming up, consider buying a gift card for a friend or a loved one who deserves a chance to relax and break away from the chaos of daily life.
Spavia Ankeny is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For a list of all services and membership details, visit ankenyia.spaviadayspa.com.
