From hot cocoa bombs to a tasty local legend called the Gremlin, these Cedar Rapids-based chocolate shops are certain to meet your sweet needs–on Valentine’s Day and beyond.
The award-winning Betty Jane Candies in Dubuque has whipped up handmade chocolate since 1938, with the Gremlin being its signature treat. The Gremlin comprises chocolate, pecans and homemade caramel in a crunchy little mound–and is even available in bar form. Truffles, caramels, milk chocolate bites, nuts and candies are also up for grabs at the beloved shop. If you’re wanting to purchase a heart box of Betty Jane Candies for Valentine’s Day, it is advised that you shop ahead of the holiday.
From toffee to truffles, caramels to creams, everything you find at The Marion Chocolate Shop has been crafted in-house and packaged fresh for its customers. (You can even grab bottles of Iowa wine in store!) The popular family-owned business goes back four generations and was purchased by Ben and Katy Davis just last year. What’s next for the shop? House-made chocolate bars, coming soon.
A one-stop shop for all things saccharine, Marion-based Sweetopia is known for its high-quality, handmade chocolates (using 100 percent premium Belgium chocolate), fresh-made pastries and custom cakes. The full-service bakery and candy shop can even whip up gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, keto and sugar-free eats–as well as goodies for your four-legged friends. Sweetopia is currently taking pre-orders chocolate-covered strawberries, cocoa/coffee bombs and gift boxes for Valentine’s Day.
