Hometown: Harcourt

First job: Construction laborer for a local small business.

Favorite ways to spend your free time in IA: I enjoy sitting; there isn’t a lot of time for that as a small-business owner. Even more so, I enjoy playing games with my family and helping out at our church.

Your biggest accomplishment and why: Starting this business with my wife from the ground up. We literally started with a potter’s wheel in a basement  and later relocated to a remodeled hog building for our first place of business in 2006. Now our business is housed in a former bank building in Dayton, Iowa.

The biggest obstacle you overcame: Moving into a former bank and then remodeling it while living and working there.

Someone who inspires you and why: I have had many people who have inspired me in the different seasons of my life: my parents, friends, family and people from my church. I’ve learned from them what to do and what not to do.

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: Be an artist and an entrepreneur, not one or the other, but both. In a career you continually have to develop your talents and you have to hone new ones as well. If you want to succeed as an artist, you have to develop business skills, set goals and a system, and then actually carry it through to fruition.

Favorite quote: “All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.” –Proverbs 14:23

Something someone would be surprised to learn about you: I have many freshwater aquariums.

What makes someone fabulous: Treating everyone how you would want to be treated.
