How did your love story begin? Carly: Our love story began with a classic swipe right! Connor and I matched on Tinder when we were both in college at UNI in Cedar Falls six years ago. We had our first date at Panera and went to see a Nicholas Sparks movie afterward. Funny story, I left to use the restroom during the movie, and he thought I ditched him. He was honestly surprised when I came back.

Favorite thing about one another: Carly: I have so many favorite things about Connor it’s hard to choose just one! He’s the person who I can always laugh with, can always make me smile, gives me a sense of calm and encourages me to be the best version of me. He loves his family and is kind and genuine to everyone he meets. He’s not afraid to be silly and enjoys simple things in life. My most favorite thing about Connor has to be that he wears two hats – he’s my best friend and my partner.

Connor: Seeing Carly when I get home after a long day of work will always be my favorite part of each day. I know she said the same thing about me, but she really does give me a sense of calm. We can always be ourselves around each other, laugh together and she supports me in everything I do. She really is my best friend.

Favorite date night: Connor: Each month we try a new nice restaurant around town. We like to choose places that are local and unique and offer a little more elevated experience. It’s just a fun way to treat ourselves and spend a night out enjoying each other’s company.

Favorite tradition you have as a couple: Connor: Our favorite tradition together is probably going bird watching. We frequently go to the Jester Park bird blind to watch birds and then go hiking afterward on the weekends. It’s a really peaceful activity and gives us an excuse to spend time together outside no matter the time of year. It’s always fun to see how many different types of birds we can identify. Winter months are really great for bird watching since there are fewer leaves on the trees, even if it’s cold.

What does your happily ever after look like? Carly: For us, our goals and wishes for the future are to continue seeking joy together, keep making each other laugh and taking care of one another as we grow old. Life may not always be perfect, but we can enjoy the ride together and support each other in everything we do. The future feels a lot less daunting when your husband doubles as your best friend.
