Father's Day at Reiman Gardens

How to Celebrate Father’s Day in Iowa

Father’s Day is just around the corner. Luckily, Iowa is set to host a number of different events that are sure to make your day with your dad completely unforgettable. Here’s how to best celebrate Father’s Day in Iowa.

The Father’s Day Doubles Tournament at Sunnyside Disc Golf Course in Atlantic will offer a great opportunity for the fathers and father-figures in your life to get outdoors and enjoy comradery with others—via a quality game of golf, of course. Check-in for the tournament begins at 7:30 a.m., and tee time starts at 9 a.m. The tournament will also feature different competition divisions, including a father/son face-off.

Thanks to the Principal Foundation, fathers from across the state of Iowa can now enjoy free admission to the Des Moines Botanical Garden on Father’s Day this year. The Des Moines Botanical Garden is one of the most unique destinations in the state, as it showcases flora that’s both local to the region, and can also be found around the world.

Enjoy outdoor, live music in West Des Moines at the newly opened Jamie Hurd Amphitheater at Raccoon River Park. The vibrant space will feature special Father’s Day music from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the holiday. And just nearby in Indianola, at the Summerset Winery, visitors can sit back and enjoy live music along with a fresh glass of wine.

For your history-loving father, a trip to the local antique show could be the perfect way to spend Father’s Day this year. And fortunately, the Walnut Antique Show is back on and is set to feature more than 340 antique dealers from across the United States, who will gather in Walnut’s main street area to auction off their historic goodies.

One of the best ways to bond with the people you love is through a shared enjoyment of sports and exercise. And Des Moines will be hosting its eighth-annual Father’s Day Race—though this year, it will be in a virtual format. Admission is $22, and will help to raise funds for the organization, Team Hoyt, which was founded through a desire to use long-distance running to support others.

The Savage Freds and Dick Danger Band will be rocking the Summer Sundaze outdoor concert series at the Jamie Hurd Amphitheater on Father’s Day. Food can be purchased from food trucks, and lawn games will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis at this free, family-friendly event.
