Where to Celebrate Mother’s Day in Iowa

With Mother’s Day nearing, it’s imperative to get a plan in place so that you can celebrate your mother properly—whether that’s via unique events or fun dining experiences, there are plenty of ways to shower your mama with love. Here’s where you can celebrate Mother’s Day in Iowa this year.

Surety Hotel is one of the sleekest hotels in Des Moines—and the Mulberry Street Tavern, located just inside the hotel, is serving an annual brunch on Mother’s Day that features beloved dishes like fried chicken, omelettes and fresh beignets. For visitors looking to enjoy a truly well-rounded Mother’s Day experience, the hotel’s solarium will also play host to mini family photo sessions (available by appointment) which will be taken by photographer Alexa Karen. Plus, The Gemini Collective will be in attendance via a pop-up which will sell dried floral arrangements and other home good items.

Clyde’s is set to serve up a diner-style brunch on Mother’s Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that will feature brunch staples and specially-curated cocktails that can be enjoyed via the space’s indoor/outdoor setting. Reservations are encouraged, and can be made either online or by phone.

Americana is one of Des Moines’ buzziest restaurants year-round—and on Mother’s Day, it’s no different. In fact, all reservations for the special holiday are already filled. However, between last-minute cancellations and unplanned openings, some lucky wait-listers might still get the opportunity to indulge in the Americana’s world-class brunch—their menu offerings are actually that good. Their family-style brunch is priced at $22.

North Liberty’s largest restaurant, Tin Roost, boasts one of the best spaces for large family gatherings, parties and events—perhaps best enjoyed on holidays like Mother’s Day. Plus, its brunch selection makes it unique in its own right. Tin Roost’s breakfast offerings include items like pork tenderloin, a rise-and-shine kale bowl, breakfast potatoes and a number of other savory dishes. Plus, mimosas are only $1.

Trostel’s Greenbriar serves up an eclectic brunch selection that includes sweet dishes like caramel French toast and more savory alternatives like mild white fish topped with pineapple salsa. Reservations are encouraged, and carry-out options are available.

Arguably one of the biggest and most beloved Mother’s Day events in Iowa is at The Walnut, where the restaurant space plays host to an annual Mother’s Day Drag Brunch—complete with a tiara, a signature shot drink, raffle prizes and an unbeatable environment that certainly isn’t reflective of a typical Mother’s Day brunch. It’s undoubtedly competitive to get a spot on the waitlist for The Walnut’s brunch. But, if you find yourself so lucky, prepare for a memorable three-course brunch experience all for only $35.

And while brunches are usually the go-to Mother’s Day treat, those looking for more of an evening experience can indulge in a decadent, swanky dinner from Fleming’s. The famed steakhouse is offering a prix-fixe three-course Mother’s Day meal that boasts everything from filet mignon dishes to crab-stuffed shrimp scampi—need we say more? A Mother’s Day meal at Fleming’s will cost a minimum of $80, but it’s worth every penny if you’re hoping to gift your mother with an unforgettable evening accented by rich dinner options.
