Iowa’s Best Children’s Museums

From exploring deserted islands to going on an adventure with Doc McStuffins, your little ones are in for a thrilling day with some of Iowa’s best children’s museums.

The Iowa Children’s Museum

With a mission to inspire every child to imagine, create and discover, The Iowa Children’s Museum is the perfect place for your little ones to learn about and explore new things–all while playing! Your children will enjoy 14 interactive exhibits, from the science behind motion to an imaginary deserted island. You can catch a glimpse of their exhibits with a virtual tour here, and visit the museum in Coral Ridge Mall. 

Des Moines Children’s Museum

Tucked away inside Valley West Mall, Des Moines Children’s Museum is a fun, safe and educational environment to let your children explore the arts and world around them. You can expect hands-on exhibits and programs to encourage a love for learning and growing. The museum is closed Wednesdays and Sundays, but open the rest of the week from 10 a.m. to  3 p.m. 

Family Museum 

Located on Bettendorf’s Learning Campus is the Family Museum. With a design primarily for children 8 and under, the exhibits feature exciting familiar faces such as Doc McStuffins and Clifford the Big Red Dog. The grounds also include a variety of activities including dance classes, art studios and private playgrounds. Family Museum is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

LaunchPAD Children’s Museum

Aimed on the importance of a child’s development, LaunchPAD Children’s Museum in Sioux City provides a world full of friendly, educational play to help your little ones mind’s grow. With the help of 18 hands-on and interactive exhibits, they will learn what to expect in a variety of settings from a barn to a supermarket. The museum is open all week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
